Johnson Jr., EMS Director <br /> (Jackson Parish Ambulance Service District) <br /> 115 Watts Street <br /> Jonesboro, Louisiana 71251 <br /> Re: Ethics Board Docket No. 2017-745 <br /> Dear Director Johnson: <br /> The Louisiana Board of Ethics,at its August 18, 2017 meeting,considered your request for <br /> an advisory opinion regarding whether the Code of Governmental Ethics would prohibit Jackson <br /> Parish Hospital physician,Dr.Paula Parkerson,after hours,from contracting with the Jackson Parish <br /> Ambulance Service District to perform Medical Director services.You provided that Dr.Parker son <br /> would be paid a flat monthly rate from the District. Additionally,you provided that pursuant to La. <br /> R.S. 33:9058, the Jackson Parish Ambulance Service is a political subdivision of the State. <br /> The Board concluded, and instructed me to inform you,under the facts presented,there are <br /> no provisions in the Louisiana Code of Governmental Ethics which would prohibit Dr.Paula Parker <br /> son, after hours, from contracting with the Jackson Parish Ambulance Service District to perform <br /> Medical Director services. However, you should be advised that this opinion request may present <br /> an issue associated with the Louisiana Dual Office-Holding laws,which are under the jurisdiction <br /> of the Attorney General. <br /> This advisory opinion is based solely on the facts as set forth herein. Changes to the facts <br /> presented may result in a different application of the provisions of the Code of Ethics. The Board <br /> issues no opinion as to past conduct or laws other than Code of Governmental Ethics.
