As Command Historian, <br /> your duties include researching, organizing, and interpreting Louisiana militia and National <br /> Guard history through the use and display of public reports, files, and documents. You also as- <br /> sist researchers with library and archive resources, as well as conduct oral histories with soldiers, <br /> airmen, veterans, and any other appropriate parties who may contribute to the history of the <br /> Louisiana National Guard. <br /> You are interested in writing and selling a book detailing the esteemed history of the Louisiana <br /> National Guard. You stated that all of your source material would be public documents. Addi- <br /> tionally, you stated that any new research and all writing would be conducted outside of your <br /> normal working hours at the Louisiana National Guard Museum. <br /> The Board conduded, and instructed me to inform you, that, generally, the Code would not <br /> prohibit you from receiving compensation from the sale of your book as you have not partici- <br /> pated in, and your duties as Command Historian do not include, the authorship and publication <br /> of a book regarding the Louisiana National Guard. La. R.S. 42:1111C(1)(a) prohibits a public <br /> servant from receiving anything of economic value for any service, the subject matter of which <br /> is devoted substantially to the responsibilities,programs,or operations of the agency of the pub- <br /> lic servant and in which the public servant has participated. <br /> However, please be aware that, in the event you are able to publish and sell the book, La.
