You questioned whether you
would have to resign from the Fire Department if you were elected to the School Board.
The Board concluded and instructed me to inform you that the Code of Governmental Ethics would
not prohibit you from serving as a member of the Tangipahoa School Board while being employed .
as Chief of the Independence Volunteer Fire Department. The Tangipahoa School Board is a
separate agency from the Independence Volunteer Fire Department. As long as the School Board
has no authority over the Fire Department, makes no appointments to the Fire Department and has
no control over funding for the Fire Department, no conflict exists which would prevent you from
serving on the School Board while being employed by the Fire Department.
This advisory opinion is based solely on the facts as set forth herein. Changes to the facts presented
may result in a different application of the provisions of the Code of Ethics. The Board issues no
opinion as to past conduct or laws other than Code of Governmental Ethics. If you have any
questions,please contact me at(225) 219-5600 or (800) 842-6630.
Sincerely,
LOUISIANA BO• ' I OF ETHICS
Gregory L.
