Sanders
4581 Main Street
Anacoco, Louisiana 71403
Re: Louisiana Board of Ethics Docket No. 2017-1333
Dear Mr. Sanders:
The Louisiana Board of Ethics,at its January 19,2018 meeting, considered your request for
an advisory opinion regarding whether the Code of Governmental Ethics would prohibit you,a part
time police office with the Village of Anacoco from being appointed as Interim Chief of Police by
the Anacoco Board of Alderman and then run for the position in the upcoming special election for
Chief of Police of the Village. You stated that you do not serve on the Board of Alderman.
The Board concluded, and instructed me to inform you, that nothing in the Code of
Governmental Ethics would prohibit you from running in the special election for Police Chief of the
Village of Anacoco if you were appointed by the Board of Alderman as the interim Police Chief of
the Village of Anacoco.
This advisory opinion is based solely on the facts as set forth herein. Changes to the facts as
presented may result in a different application of the provisions of the Code of Ethics. The Board
issues no opinion as to past conduct or as to laws other than the Code of Governmental Ethics. If
you have any questions, please contact me at(800) 842-6630 or(225) 219-5600.
Sincerely,
LOUISIANA BOARD OF ETHICS
Suzanne Quinlan Mooney
For the Board
AN EQUAL OPPORTUNITY EMPLOYER
