Baham
Post Office Box 331
Baton Rouge, Louisiana 70821
Re: Ethics Board Docket No.2018-402
Dear Ms. Baham:
The Louisiana Board of Ethics, at its June 15, 2018 meeting, considered your request for an
advisory opinion regarding whether the Code of Governmental Ethics would prohibit you from owning
and operating a driving school while you are employed or after the termination of your employment with
the Division of Administrative Law as an administrative law judge. You provided that you would like to
start a driving school now as an outside business and later retire and operate the driving school full time.
You stated that driving schools in Louisiana are licensed under the Office of Motor Vehicles. The
Division of Administrative Law does not regulate the driving schools.
The Board concluded, and instructed me to inform you, that under the facts presented herein,
nothing in the Code of Governmental Ethics would prohibit you from owning or operating a driving
school while you are employed or after the termination of your public service with the Division of
Administrative Law.
This advisory opinion is based solely on the facts as set forth herein. Changes to the facts as
presented may result in a different application of the provisions of the Code of Ethics. The Board issues
no opinion as to past conduct or as to laws other than the Code of Governmental Ethics.
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me at (800) 842-6630 or (225) 219-
5600.
Sincerely,
LOUISIANA BOARD OF ETHICS
/11
Suzanne Quinlan Mooney
For the Board
