Ethics Boazd Docket No. 2022-452 <br /> Page 3 of 8 <br /> ternunated from her position due to Malfeasance in Office related to the theft of money from the St. <br /> Helena Parish Sherif�s Office_ <br /> 3. <br /> As Chief Civil Deputy,Deputy Tu�Collector,Ms.Douglas was responsible for the collection <br /> of sales taxes,property ta�ces,forfeitures, Sheriff sales,and oversaw the department fo service. Ms. <br /> Douglas was one of two people who could make deposits at the bank for the Sheriff's Office. <br /> 4. <br /> From April 2022 through May 2022, Ms. Douglas admitted to stealing $10,525_67 in cash <br /> and destroying$24,535.53 in checks. None of the checks were negotiated or cashed. All destroyed <br /> checks were replaced by the original person making payment to the Sheriff's Office. <br /> 5. <br /> Ms. Douglas was arrested and charged with Malfeasance in Office and Felony Theft. <br /> According to minutes of the 21�`Judicial District Court on March 10, 2023, Ms. Douglas' charges <br /> were dismissed as restitution of$10,525.67 had been paid in full. <br /> 1V. <br /> PROVISIONS OF LAW: <br /> The following provisions of law are implicated by the alleged facts stated herein: <br /> (a) La.R.S.42:1111A prohibits a public servant from receiving anything of <br /> economic value,other than compensation and benefits from the governmental entity <br /> to which he is duly entitled, for the performance of the duties and responsibilities of <br /> his office or position_ <br />
